Recycle, Reuse, Repurpose: making art from e-waste

From more efficient and smarter systems to upgrades that make life easy, every year millions of tonnes of e-waste ends up in landfill, polluting the earth. Exploring alternative ways to dispose of unwanted equipment to reduce e-waste is therefore one of the most important things we can do. So when one of our customers told us they’d transformed some of their e-waste into works of art, we knew we were speaking with someone who was taking the three R’s to a whole new level.

It’s not waste until it’s wasted

The artist, Dan Sklan, breathes new life into recycled circuit boards by turning them into everything from Rhinos to Predator concept art sculptures. In giving this redundant equipment a second life, he hopes to spread awareness about how important it is to repurpose parts from old telecom and networking equipment that isn’t eligible for reuse, repair or resale.

Check out a few pictures of his work below (click to enlarge the image):

This Rhino sculpture is made from over 200 circuit boards and took 12 hours over a week period working late into the night after finishing at work for the day.

Received as a 30th birthday gift, this Predator inspired sculpture was languishing in the corner of Dan’s garage gathering dust when he was inspired to breathe new life into it and spent over 15 hours adding the circuit boards. This creation has over 500 pieces of reclaimed circuit boards and each piece was cut, bent and molded into shape to fit each individual contour and curve.

Have you given e-waste a second life?

If you’ve done something similar or have an original way of re-purposing e-waste we’d love to hear from you!
