About the ADVA FSP 2000 Fibre Service Platform

The ADVA FSP (Fibre Service Platform) 2000 is an optical multiplexing platform produced by the German networking company, ADVA. Designed as an efficient solution for building Optical+Ethernet networking solutions for access networks, metro networks, and regional area networks, the ADVA FSP 2000 specifically addresses the needs of both small and medium-sized companies as well as service providers and carriers. The FSP 2000 platform provides reliable high-speed data transmission, voice, and video application traffic.

Boasting high levels of scalability, the ADVA FSP 2000 platform can enable the utilisation of up to 64 dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) channels. This scalability helps to extend the capabilities of existing fibre optic infrastructure, allowing for efficient network expansion and offers a low unit cost of spectral multiplexed channels in the network. This is achieved through the application of coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) technology and the simultaneous utilization of CWDM+DWDM. The combination of these technologies ensures optimal utilisation of network resources while minimising costs.

One of the key strengths of the ADVA FSP 2000 is its flexibility in allowing network operators to choose the optimal interface type depending on the requirements of the business. The platform supports SFP/XFP transceivers for all modules, allowing for easy adaptation to different network configurations.

Additionally, the ADVA FSP 23000 platform offers a wide range of supported protocols and interfaces with spanning speeds from 8 Mb/s to 10 Gb/s. This versatility makes it compatible with various protocols such as SONET/SDH, Ethernet, ATM, storage network protocols, video stream transfer protocols, and proprietary protocols operating within the specified speed range. With its extensive protocol support, the ADVA FSP 2000 ensures seamless integration into existing network infrastructures.

The ADVA FSP 2000 prioritises reliability and security. It enables remote control of all network elements and allows for monitoring of fibre optic lines using the Optical Supervisory Channel (OSC). This feature ensures proactive management of the network’s state and allows for the detection of fibre breaks, signal depressions, and potential security threats.

Also including a multilevel security system, protecting against unauthorised access whilst allowing registered users to access the platform remotely as required, the ADVA FSP 2000 is capable of utilising SSH software for remote device control and enhanced security measures which prevent unauthorised access through intercepted passwords.

ADVA FSP 2000 offers centralised control of the network using ADVA’s FSP Element Manager and FSP Network Manager. These tools provide comprehensive control and monitoring capabilities, enabling efficient configuration and maintenance of the network. Additionally, the FSP Network Planner tool assists in step-by-step system configuration, simplifying the deployment process and ensuring optimal network performance.

The ADVA FSP 2000 was eventually replaced with the ADVA FSP 3000, which offered similar functionality, but was capable of supporting a higher bandwidth and more advanced protocols. In 2021 ADVA merged with ADTRAN, meaning components and technical services will no longer be available under the ADVA brand.
