The use of bi-directional optical transceivers (often referred to as BiDi) has gained traction over the last few years. Here at TXO we have certainly noticed an up-tick in requests for this type of module among our traditional telco and enterprise customer base of late.

Why choose bi-directional optical transceivers?

Simply put, bi-directional optical transceivers allow a more efficient utilisation of existing fibre infrastructure. This is because instead of two strands of fibre (where one is transmitting and the other is receiving), with the implementation of the BiDi module a single strand can be used for both upstream and downstream communications.

Telcos are seeing big advantages where they are connecting business customers with a 1G or 10G link. Not only does TXO’s range of BiDi optical transceivers go up to 120km for the 1G and to 80km for the 10G, they’re compatible with all of the major OEM brands saving you time, money and headaches.
