Circular economy

The circular economy is an economic model aimed at using resources efficiently and keeping them in circulation. It’s the counter-model to the dominant and unsustainable linear economy, where fossil resources are turned into products and eventually end up as waste. The circular economy uses various strategies to minimise resource consumption and waste. These include not only different forms of recycling but also repair, extending product lifespans, using alternative raw materials, developing new business models, and designing products in a way that allows materials to remain in circulation.

About Circular Valley

In the extended Rhine-Ruhr region, Circular Valley is emerging as the global hotspot for the circular economy and the “Silicon Valley” of circularity. As Germany’s largest metropolitan area, the region offers ideal conditions: major businesses (some of which are already active in the circular economy), a unique scientific landscape, high quality of life and openness to the world, as well as a strong industrial tradition.

The Circular Valley Foundation brings together businesses, startups, academia, policymakers, and society to accelerate the shift towards a circular economy. Within this network, concrete cross-industry and cross-technology solutions are developed and implemented. The initiative provides a platform for sharing ideas, knowledge, and best practices, and supports startups from around the world, especially through the Circular Economy Accelerator programme.

As Dr. Carsten Gerhardt, Chairman of the Circular Valley Foundation, explains:

“To build a truly circular economy, we need more than good ideas; we need collaboration across industries, borders, and mindsets. Circular Valley brings together those with the vision and the capability to turn ambition into action. It’s not just about innovation – it’s about implementation at scale.”

Benefits of our partnership

Being part of the Circular Valley network allows us to collaborate with innovators and changemakers who are redefining how resources are used across industries. Through this partnership, we gain access to emerging technologies, fresh perspectives, and opportunities to test new ideas that support a more circular way of working.

Our contribution to a circular future

Since 2005, TXO has supported industries worldwide in transitioning to more sustainable technology lifecycles. We apply circular economy principles to help extend infrastructure life, reduce environmental impact, and lower operational costs. Our approach is practical and holistic, encompassing reuse, repair, resale, and responsible recycling through a full-circle technology lifecycle model.

By making our customers’ technology footprints more efficient, resilient, and commercially viable, we help them meet critical environmental, operational, and financial targets, while tackling challenges like supply chain disruption, technology transitions, and engineering continuity.

Looking ahead

Our partnership with Circular Valley is a clear statement of our commitment to becoming even more sustainable and circular in the way we operate. We continue to set ambitious goals and work on continuously improving our products and processes. Together, we can make a positive difference and shape a sustainable future.
