Challenge

The client required an experienced telecoms systems integration partner to deliver critical communications infrastructure for three new-build offshore substations, supporting an ambitious programme to expand renewable energy generation at scale.

Each solution needed to meet the operational requirements of the end operator while integrating with third-party hardware and systems across the wider substation environment.

With multiple systems, technical interfaces and stakeholders involved, the client needed a partner capable of taking responsibility for the complete integration process and delivering consistently across all three projects.

Solution

TXO managed the complete delivery of three telecoms systems for each substation: Automatic Identification System (AIS), VHF radio and integrated telecoms cabinets.

Our scope covered design, engineering and procurement through to build, testing, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), delivery and commissioning.

The solutions were engineered using trusted and proven systems and hardware, then assembled and integrated at TXO’s UK staging facility. Our engineers built the telecoms cabinets and brought together the individual hardware and software components to create fully integrated solutions.

Before progressing to formal FAT, each solution underwent rigorous testing by TXO. This included validating hardware and software functionality as well as the interconnectivity between systems, enabling potential integration issues to be identified and resolved before deployment.

Following successful FAT, the systems were delivered to the shipyard, where TXO engineers supported commissioning and integration with the wider substation infrastructure.

Our involvement continued beyond commissioning, with TXO engineers delivering training to the end operators on the operation and ongoing maintenance of the hardware and software.

Result

All three integrated telecoms solutions were delivered on time and within budget, meeting the high technical standards required for critical offshore infrastructure.

Perhaps the strongest measure of success came after delivery. Following the completion of the programme, the client appointed TXO to deliver the same solutions for two further projects, extending a successful engineering partnership and demonstrating continued confidence in our ability to deliver complex telecoms integration at scale.

Conclusion

By managing the project from design and engineering through to build, testing and commissioning, TXO provided continuity across every stage of delivery.

The project demonstrates our ability to integrate complex, critical telecoms systems within major infrastructure programmes, combining specialist engineering capability with rigorous testing and end-to-end project delivery to connect the systems, people and infrastructure needed to keep critical operations running.
