Huawei OSN 8800 Repair Service
The Huawei OSN 8800 is an OTN System (Optical Transport Network). It is used in the National and Regional backbone network for the centralised transport and grooming of various service types in the manner described below. It is a 40 Gbps and 100 Gbps optical transport system.
OTN is a later standard compared to DWDM (which is about point to point transmission). OTN is much more flexible and allows the multiplexing of different services onto different optical paths. This means that the operator can achieve much greater utilisation of its assets and it allows for much more flexible management of cross connects within the network. Management can happen centrally via NMS rather than having to attend site to swap a card and associated fibres to apply a new cross connect. The way this is done within the Huawei OSN 8800 is by a technique known as grooming where transmission paths of signals are controlled centrally. The OSN 8800 achieves this using both electrical and optical grooming.
In the case of the former a mix of serveries such as SDH/ 1GE/ 10GE etc are transmitted to trib boards and then groomed to line boards via cross connect and are then mapped to OTU signals on the line side for onward transmission. In the case of optical grooming the actual transmission paths of optical signals are managed by creating and adjusting cross connects within the NMS ( network management system).
The TXO repair centre is equipped with a Huawei OSN 8800 T32 enhanced shelf. This equipment is used to determine faults on customer cards and also to properly test them including traffic testing post repair. Where equipment is out of warranty repair at the TXO repair centre can make sound commercial sense as well as a good way for the operator to self manage spares.
