About the Cisco 3750 Series Switches

The Cisco 3750 series switches are a range of Layer 2 and Layer 3 switches released by San Francisco based technology company, Cisco. Specifically designed for use in mid-sized to enterprise level business they support a range of port densities including 12, 24 and 48 Ethernet ports meaning they can connect to a wide range of network devices. The Cisco 3750 is available in several models, meaning network operators can choose the right platform to suit the specific needs of their business.

The Cisco 3750 series switches support Gigabit Ethernet connectivity, enabling high-speed data transfer at 10/100/1000 Mbps. With a forwarding bandwidth of up to 32 Gbps and a forwarding rate of up to 38.7Mpps (million packets per second), some models of the Cisco 3750 series can support multi-Gigabit uplink options, such as 10 Gigabit Ethernet or even higher speeds using Cisco’s Multi-Gigabit Ethernet technology. This feature provides increased bandwidth which improves the performance of demanding applications.

As a Layer 2 and Layer 3 switch, the Cisco 3750 series switches support a range of advanced protocols and security features. These include Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP), Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP), and support for routing protocols like OSPF and EIGRP. Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) snooping, Access Control Lists (ACLs), Multicast Routing (PIM, IGMP) and IPv6 support (Dual Stack, MLDv2). This range of routing protocols gives network operators a range of security and network resiliency features, which help them maintain optimum routing performance and high levels of network security, whilst also ensuring the maximum uptime for the network.

As with many Cisco switching platforms, the Cisco 3750 has scalability built into the heart of its design. Several units can be stacked together in a 19-inch wall mountable rack. The Cisco 3750 also utilises Cisco’s StackWise technology. StackWise enables the stacking of multiple switches, creating a single logical unit with enhanced scalability, simplified management, and built-in redundancy. This scalability means businesses can upgrade their switching platform as their business grows meaning costly upgrades can be avoided in the future.

The Cisco 3750 series switches a range of features that allow it to continue operation in the event of a system failure, they support redundant power supplies, hot-swappable components as well as several software redundancies which make maintaining the platform more efficient, with less chance of costly downtime.

Many models within the Cisco 3750 series switches support Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology, providing power to network devices such as wireless access points, IP phones and other Cisco supported PoE devices. PoE eliminates the need for separate power supplies and simplifies deployments, making it an ideal choice for organisations looking to power and connect PoE-enabled devices conveniently without the need to invest in a separate power infrastructure.

The Cisco 3750 series also features a host of management options that make maintaining the platform simpler and easier for network operators. These include the use of the Cisco IOS Software, intuitive command-line interface (CLI), web-based graphical user interface (GUI), and support for Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). Overall, this range of features helps keep operation and monitoring of the network more convenient for network administrators.

Cisco announced the end of life for the Cisco 3750 on the 31st May 2021. After this point they would no longer offer hardware or software support for businesses using this platform. TXO continues to service, repair and source replacement parts for the Cisco 3750, despite this being discontinued by the OEM. Contact us today to find out how we can help maintain your existing Cisco Network.
