Joanne Williams, Group Head of Trade Compliance at TXO, plays a pivotal role in steering the company’s international trade practices in alignment with global regulations and TXO’s sustainability initiatives. In this interview, Joanne shares insights into her role, the challenges she faces, and the innovative strategies she employs to maintain TXO’s reputation as a leader in sustainable telecom networks.
Interviewer: Thank you for joining us, Joanne. To start, could you tell us a bit about your role as the Group Head of Trade Compliance at TXO?
Joanne: Absolutely and thank you for having me. My role primarily focuses on ensuring that TXO adheres to international export laws and regulations, which is crucial for our global operations. This involves overseeing our compliance framework, conducting risk assessments, and implementing policies that support ethical and legal international trade practices. We’re also currently implementing export licences in our overseas offices to open up our export markets and increase our ability to provide globally sustainable solutions for our customers.
Interviewer: TXO is known for its commitment to sustainability and the circular economy. How does your department contribute to these goals?
Joanne: Trade compliance is integral to sustainability, especially in the telecom sector where equipment and parts cross international borders frequently. We ensure that our import and export activities not only comply with trade laws but also align with our ethical and sustainability goals. For example, we scrutinise our supply chains for environmental compliance and work with partners who prioritise eco-friendly practices.
Interviewer: What are some of the biggest challenges you face in your role?
Joanne: One of the main challenges is the complexity of international trade regulations, which can vary significantly from one country to another. Staying abreast of these changes and interpreting them correctly is essential to prevent compliance breaches. Another challenge is ensuring that all our global teams understand and implement these regulations consistently.
Interviewer: Looking ahead, what are your main priorities or goals for the next year?
Joanne: My primary focus is on enhancing our compliance training programs. As TXO continues to expand, it’s crucial that our teams are equipped with the knowledge and tools they need to operate effectively in diverse regulatory environments. Additionally, we’re looking to further integrate our compliance measures with our sustainability initiatives to help advance TXO’s position as a leader in sustainable telecom networks.
Interviewer: Thank you, Joanne, for sharing these insights into the crucial role of trade compliance at TXO. Your efforts clearly play a pivotal role in the company’s global operations and sustainability commitments.
Joanne: Thank you for the opportunity to discuss our work. I’m proud to contribute to TXO’s mission and look forward to continuing to support our growth and sustainability goals.
