Alcatel 7450 ESS Repair

The Alcatel now Nokia portfolio 7450 ESS ( Ethernet Service Switch) is a chassis type switch for Carrier Ethernet. It also has some layer 3 features and so is sometimes described as switch / router. They are mainly used for metro ethernet aggregation in fixed and mobile networks. This is done for efficiency within the network so that IP services are running over a common and cost efficient IP architecture.  The 7450 ESS supports MPLS. There are two chassis types which are the ESS-12 and ESS-7 having 12 and 7 slots respectively.

The interfaces range from 10/100/1000 Base to 100 G via CFP optical module. Some of the building blocks can be shared with the Alcatel 7750 SR. These include the Integrated Media Module (IMM) which are the line cards, and Input / Output Module (IOM). Other modules for the 7450 ESS include the MDAs ( Media Dependant Adapter) which provide the physical interfaces and PEM ( power entry modules).

The TXO repair centre has a reference ESS-7 system which is used for test and screen projects for operators and also to support repairs for this platform. The TXO repair centre is able to identify defects with modules belonging to the 7450 system, to repair them and to certify function by means of traffic testing.
